Walterior Motives
I am here to let you know that you don't need some epic stage to put on a show. You don't need a big anime convention to start knitting. You don't need a Vevo to play that instrument. You don't need permission for anything. I want to encourage you, nay, embolden you to act on an idea simply because it entered your brain.
For years, I was guilty of thinking things to myself like "Wouldn't it be cool if this existed?" but neglecting to give that thought any more life than that. I wonder, what worlds and universes did I prevent from growing because of my inaction? By just letting these thoughts fall to the wayside, someone who needed to see my work didn't find the inspiration THEY needed to make something else, or to make it through another day, as art helps all of us do.
I used my creativity to compose excuses, instead of applying it to doing the work.
I will have more to say on this as I settle into articulating my thoughts more, but I wanted to leave you with this for the time being. Heh, for the time being. It sounds like an individual. Who is "the time being"? I guess that would be you, the one experiencing time through reading this. Or would I be the time being by manipulating your time by having you read this? Or does creating things to be observed make me the time being? We should circle back to this at some point.
Ah! I forgot to mention my current creation concerns! I’ve been occupying my mind with making my own edition of those Brain Quest cards that we used to have when we were younger with the questions relating to science, math or history and the answers on the back. Since collecting trivia is one of my favorite hobbies, I’d like to put it on display with my own Brain Quest. I’ve been testing out screw lengths and materials because I want it to share the same functionality as what I’m spoofing. I’m excited because, while I love all the books I made this year, they were all mostly just... done once printed? I like to make more unconventional stuff like Bombsweeper, the book where I had to apply stickers with precision once the book was already printed. I want to have to cut a hole in a book because the project demands it, it’s not done simply for being printed. I want to make things that are not conventional at the end of the day. No hate to conventional books, however. I consider it more like “ten for them, two for me” haha!
